Shopping and sailing lovers unite! The New England brand “Sea Bags” has just opened a store in downtown Charleston and is now offering recycled products to everyone looking for a greener and socially responsible handbag.
Sea Bags are sails transformed into nautically inspired totes and other accessories that aim to make all their customers happy. Anyone can sell their sails to the company, where they’ll be cleaned and transformed into fashionable articles that will always retain the unique essence of what they once were.

Their website details that sails are collected one at a time through a network of passionate boaters. They are then sown in a building in Portland’s working waterfront. Each handbag is then designed according to the sail’s original colors and sewn and finished by skilled Maine craftspeople.
“Every bag is as rugged as they come, and each one is a little different than the next,” their website reads.
Plus, they don’t only give used-sails a second chance, but they also use eco-friendly inks to make them distinctive.
Since their opening in 1999, Sea Bags have saved over 700 tons of material from going into landfills.
If you’re looking to trade in your sail, just head over to their Sea Bags Trade Program and leave your contact information. Here’s everything you need to know.
