Don’t miss this fun spring event organized by the Charleston Museum. Local artist Kristy Bishop will lead an introductory workshop on dyeing with indigo at the Dill Sanctuary, inside James Island County Park.
Participants will learn about the history of the blue dye plant, known in South Carolina. Bishop will focus on itajime (folding and clamped resist), sumo (bound resist), and Lui (stitched resist), three techniques that create unique and beautiful patterns.
Students will begin practicing on cotton squares and after on a piece of bigger cotton fabric and a crepe de chine silk scarf. They are also encouraged to bring personal items to dye.
